I’m a bit surprised myself but Digital Chocolate has rapidly surpassed 1 million monthly users for our social games on Facebook. This is because of the successful fast starts of both MMA Pro Fighter and NanoTowns. Last week, there were only 10 games with virtual goods that added at least 50,000 players and that also grew by more than 20%, and we had 2 of the 10.
And just days ago we released our third, Safari Kingdom. You can create, build and nurture your own Safari Kingdom with 20 kinds of wild animals, 100 different characters and more than 80 types of decorations to make your kingdom unique and personal. The wild animals begin as eggs and go through various stages that are, ahem, terminally cute (MMA is more my personal style but this stuff does look great ;-)). The sound effects alone are pretty cool for a Facebook game, and there are fun quests to keep you entertained and help you progress faster. You can also visit your friends’ kingdoms and help take care of their pets while they’re away. This game gives players a positive vibe about protecting our environment and native species from extinction.
Later next week, things get even better with the public debut of our NanoStars platform, which I have now been working on for more than 16 years. I’m really enjoying the final stages of polishing NanoStar Castles, which I began playing and tuning in a prototype form almost 2 years ago. This has been a labor of true love and I hope people give it a serious look to appreciate the many innovations and subtleties. As a gameplay experience it has a great sense of flow. Our testers and engineers are having a lot of fun playing it, which is highly unusual. It is far more typical towards the end of a project to hate the game because we’d be sick of it. NanoStar Castles is obviously a different sort of case.
